Up next in the Bewitching Fairy Tales Series…
Mirrors of Ice, a Snow White and The Snow Queen retelling. (Minor, vague spoilers ahead for Stalks of Gold.)
An icy princess, a broken mirror, and a forgettable prince…
While Astren dealt with their own internal unrest, their neighbors, Idres and Glaciar, waited with bated breath. King Besart and his six siblings had no idea how the situation would turn out; whether or not their alliance with Astren would go through or if they’d ever see an ounce of the gold owed to them again.
King Mathias of Glaicar was not concerned about the alliance. However, Queen Isolde did not like the idea of Idres and Astren allying themselves together, leaving Glaciar at the top of the continent with the Esmean Empire on one side and two closely allied nations with no interest in Glaciar’s well-being on the other.
Fortunately for Idres, their alliance went through with the marriage of Queen Loraine and Prince Harlin. Unfortunately for Glaciar, King Mathias died soon after the marriage was announced, leaving Isolde to be regent until Princess Eirwen comes of age and launching the country into a six-month mourning period.
Much to everyone’s surprise and Princess Eirwen’s protests, Queen Regent Isolde accepts Queen Loraine’s wedding invitation despite Glaciar’s traditional mourning customs. Of course, all seven of the Idresian royal siblings will be in attendance, including the youngest, Prince Sterling, despite his somewhat rocky first visit the year before during the original treaty talks between Astren and Idres.
After a turbulent year for Astren, hopefully nothing will ruin Queen Loraine’s wedding celebrations…
