Prince Sterling can’t say that he’s surprised he will be back in Lathe for the wedding of his second eldest brother, Harlin, to the queen of Astren. Of course, his first diplomatic trip to Lathe didn’t go quite so well, at least for him, and his family never ceases to let him forget it.

As the youngest of seven, his siblings don’t let him forget any of his mistakes—or what they think of as mistakes. Sterling doesn’t really see them as such. He doesn’t need their approval, though. He knows he’s a good diplomat, and he hopes that one day it will land him a position as an ambassador in a foreign court, far, far away from his family—Cynrik in particular.

But in the meantime, one of his brothers is getting married, and with so many royal egos, he doubts it’s going to go smoothly. Nothing ever does around him.
