No one was happier to have Chasen back home than Katja, at least she was at first. For most of her life, her brother was someone who existed more in her mind and fond memories than someone she actually knew. The news that their family’s debt was paid, and Chasen was home permanently was all she’d ever wanted. It was easy to call Chasen her favorite sibling when he wasn’t one she had to live with or be lectured by. Now that he was back, he’d seemed to take it upon himself to look after her, even though he’d been the one who chose to spend years away.

It’s not that she’s not grateful he’s back, of course she is, but she wished he wouldn’t treat her like a child that couldn’t take care of herself or automatically assume everything out of her mouth was an exaggeration. Good stories needed embellishment. And since everyone in their family insisted she wear their family’s heirloom, an enchanted red cloak, it wasn’t like anything bad could happen to her. So why shouldn’t she stop and smell the flowers every once in a while?
