As far as Astren was concerned, they knew Sandor existed, but he didn’t matter, not in the grand scheme of things. His world had changed when his mother died, and he discovered his father was none other than King Aldrich himself. He’d been brought to Lathe, but it wasn’t long before he lost his father as well, and his half-brother became king.

Being the king’s half-brother didn’t come with any benefits as far as he was concerned. He was a guardsman and that was good enough for him. No matter how much his sister prodded him about taking responsibility and learning politics, he had no interest in it. If he could choose not to be related to royalty, he would.

Which might be why it was so nice Aurelia didn’t know the truth. He’d tell her, he would, just… when he found the right moment. Hopefully she wouldn’t be too angry as soon as he worked up the courage to tell her.
