Cel’s Aesthetics: Mirrors of Ice
I love making aesthetics! (In case you hadn’t already guessed)
This is the aesthetic I’m using for my current project, Mirrors of Ice. I’m currently in the first draft stage, and hoping to finish towards the end of the month. In order to keep myself focused and give my brain a visual break, I like to look play around with aesthetics.
I use them for lots of things, like in twitter threads I make where I post about my progress. It gives the thread a nice visual at the top to give people an idea what the project is like since I can’t reveal too much.
One of my favorite things especially early on in a project is going onto Pinterest. It’s really helpful in formulating ideas and figuring out what direction I want to go in. The visuals really help me get a handle on the tone of world.
So, I made this aesthetic for my Snow Queen/Snow White fairy tale retelling. Since they’re both very winter, snow centered fairy tales, I wanted to focus in on that. Snow magic also plays a big part in the story, and I wanted the aesthetic to encompass that. Another focus of both stories was the mirror, and it’s an important part of my retelling as well, so I put it at the very center.
There’s an important running theme about brokenness and surviving, and I’d saved a lot of great quotes, but there was something about these two I really like. I feel like they really encompass the journey the two main characters go on.
I’m super excited to be working on this project! It’s early stages in the first draft, so some things might change, but I find having aesthetics really helps me focus back in on the heart of the story when I get stuck.
If you’re curious to see more aesthetics, feel free to check out my Pinterest! I’ve got a whole board for Mirrors of Ice here.
